Left Over – Not Left Out

September 20, 2020 Chef Dawn

When you’re searching for a creative dinner idea but don’t want to grocery shop, open the frig. and you will find plenty of material to work with. These pre-cooked, once perfectly delicious, but now, slightly less appetizing items are called leftovers.

Does the thought of rubbery pasta and unsatisfying microwaved results discourage you from enjoying another round of that fabulous lasagna from two nights ago? How do you inject some life into that takeout that was so delicious last night but now looks a bit dried out and not nearly as appealing?

Reheat your leftovers in the Steam Convection Oven! When I suggest injecting some “life”, I actually mean steam. When you heat with convection plus steam you won’t get soggy food, you’ll get refreshed dishes that look and taste like they did when they were first served. Baked pasta dishes are particularly susceptible to drying and the microwave, while instant, isn’t doing the trick. You could wait to heat the oven, use all that energy, and potentially overcook your leftovers or you could place your dinner into the Steam Convection Oven by Cuisinart and know that you’ll get great results. No need to preheat!

I like to use the Bake Steam mode for approx. 10 minutes at 300 degrees for a portion of lasagna or these beautiful Baked Shells with Cauliflower. The breadcrumbs stay crispy while the melty, cheesy goodness is retained. Yum!

One of the things my kids used to complain about was leftover boxed (ugh) mac’n’cheese. Now, they love their hotdogs and mac’n’cheese reheated this way! The cold hot dogs (even grilled) plump back up and the mac’n’cheese is restored to its creamy texture. You can even rejuvenate bagels and pricey artisan bread to its original state! Try doing that in a microwave. The Steam Convection Oven is a wonderful tool for saving money by allowing you to use up those leftovers taking up prime frig space only to be tossed out eventually. Three ways to win here: You’re not wasting food, you’re saving energy, and you’ll be really happy with the results!
